Northern Territory, Australia
Uluru, or Ayers Rock, is the true heart of Australia, right in the middle of nowhere in the Simpson Desert. Hiking under the silent outback skies, I could feel primitive nature of the land. I set up my tripod and noticed color of the clouds up on the horizon–the pinks and purples contrasting with the reds of the land. I composed the shot to create a natural sand pathway to lead the eye into the scene. It was thrilling to be able to capture the mood with the sun masked by this enormous rock, in this isolated location in the Aussie outback. Standing there in awe after the shoot, I could not help but appreciate how special this area is. There is truly nothing else like it in the world.
