New York
Searching for that closed New York street scene was a daunting task – it has to be perfect, and it had to have a special mood about it to hang on the gallery wall. This was the classic iconic location I focused in on and I wanted rain – yes, to add a real mood to the shot. Early morning dawn was the only time to shoot. I wanted the street to myself. Good luck. What a task this proves to be! I returned morning after morning to capture the road, it was either full of cars, trucks or people, I had to capture this.
Day 9, my patience was wearing off. Light drizzle covered our cab, and the city was pretty low key. There was a feeling in the air, I reckoned this was it. The scene was impressive, iconic, vintage and amazing. I just needed one frame. Finally it all came together. New York reflected its charm and magic right in front of me. The framing of the empire building within the Manhattan architecture really added a special perspective to the shot.
My persistence and patience had finally paid off, making it all worth while when I captured the special mood I had been chasing.
