Manhattan, New York
There are just so many moods to New York City. To shoot this place, it’s a combination – composition, lighting, weather and a lot of luck. You just got to go and get the shot. Simple. That’s all there is to it. No matter what the weather is like when you open the door. Just go! As I headed to Central park in the middle of winter in the pouring rain, I was skeptical to what would happen. The dramatic weather opened up key doors for me. As I sat up in the rain, I felt like I had Central Park to myself, a strange weird exciting feeling. The drizzle subsided, I had to work. I knew the brake in the weather would not last.
I choose the angle looking straight down the row of trees. There is so much shape and character in Central Park. It all came together to create a special moment. I only had seconds to capture the scene of perfection with no one in the shot. It was intense. Just one shot, one frame, that was all I needed. I walked away with the shot. I couldn’t believe it after such a gloomy start to the day.
Early morning mist gave this image and the mood I was chasing. Soon the rain came back in and hundreds of dog walkers took over the scene. It was a magical moment – Central Park in the mist.
