Gifford Pinchot, Washington
Every once in a while, nature gives you a perfect harmony of motion and stillness. In the heart of Gifford Pinchot National Forest, I found that moment. The fiery red leaves of autumn hung gracefully near a cascading waterfall, a scene that seemed to exist between worlds.
Balancing the movement of the falls with the delicate stillness of the leaves was key. I chose a long exposure to soften the rushing water into a silky veil, transforming its power into calm. The scarlet tones of the leaves became the heart of the image — pure, bold, and alive against the cool mist of the forest.
This photograph is about contrast — strength and fragility, motion and stillness, chaos and peace. Scarlet Falls captures the moment nature reveals its most painterly form — where time slows, light softens, and color becomes emotion.
