Saguaro National Park, Arizona
I had always seen these giant cacti in old western films and expected them to be big — but not this big! Some of these desert giants rise more than forty feet into the air, and composing a clean, vertical frame proved far more challenging than I imagined.
I searched for hours to find a cactus with the perfect silhouette — its shape, arms, and position all needed to align in balance. In some groves, there were too many in the foreground; in others, the arms didn’t complement each other. Every detail mattered.
I found an ideal composition and shot it at both sunrise and sunset, but the clear skies left me wishing for more drama. Refusing to give up, I returned the next evening — and was rewarded beyond expectation. The Arizona sky ignited in brilliant reds and purples, framing the cacti in perfect contrast against the glowing clouds.
Saguaro is a tribute to patience, persistence, and the wild beauty of the desert — where light, form, and nature come together for one unforgettable moment.
