Sometimes in the quest for the ultimate landscape shot I have to go beneath the surface. After spending a week capturing images of the islands and beaches around the Great Barrier Reef in Australia—I decided to look beneath the water’s edge. As I snorkeled over the shallow waters of the reef I saw the perfect scene below me. I grabbed my gear and took the shot—it was amazing—the patterns of light burst from the ripples of sand beneath the turquoise waters. It felt like the deep blue of the sea beyond was leading me straight to infinity.
