It is one of the longest running galleries in Peter Lik’s arsenal, and this month marks nine years at its original location. Nestled in the popular Beach Walk section of the island, LIK WAIKIKI has always fit right in amongst the high end shopping and dining – providing the perfect escape into a world of remarkable landscape beauty for eager pedestrians. Since opening in March 2006, the gallery has become a haven for vacationing tourists, local art lovers and serious, international collectors.
When designing the space for LIK WAIKIKI, Peter absolutely had to create an environment that represented his love for the peace and tranquility of the Pacific islands. A pristine glass façade gives way to a hand crafted stone interior, beautiful Brazilian wood floors and locally inspired works, such as Lanikai – a sweeping image of two distant islands off the coast of Oahu. “Hawaii is my paradise,” Peter commented. “I once only dreamed of having a gallery here – it is a place I can spend months at a time enjoying. The local culture has always warmly accepted me and my art. I can’t believe it's been nine years in Waikiki.”
LIK WAIKIKI has not only garnered a loyal crop of clientele over the years, it has also cultivated a very happy, long-term staff who always offer that “Aloha Spirit” to its visitors. Gallery Director, Steven Maier, has been a fixture here since its inception: “We have such a good, positive vibe here, and it’s all been filtered down from Peter and his amazing energy. Everyone who visits the gallery leaves in a great mood. People even say it was the highlight of their trip.”
Since 2006, LIK WAIKIKI’s prime location has made it the backdrop to many motion pictures, including George Clooney’s The Descendants and Godzilla. It is a destination spot for royalty, celebrities and athletes who have subsequently become serious collectors. With the Prince of Morocco claiming LIK WAIKIKI is a “favorite gallery,” there is no better endorsement needed for another nine years.
Congrats, Peter!
