Maui, Hawaii Deep in the jungle of Hawai’i, I hiked through many trails searching for that perfect shot. The striking colors of the black bamboo really caught my eye – so different from the green forest colors I had previously seen. Composition was critical – I wanted clean lines to add depth and strength to the image. The forest canopy was over 100’ tall and shooting from the base of the jungle was not an option. I hiked up a hillside to gain a better vantage point and used a long lens to zoom in on the scene. Morning sun filtered through the leaves providing cinematic backlighting as I pressed the shutter.
