Spread the word about Watching the City

New York, New York
Standing on top of the world’s most iconic Deco building was a feeling I’ll never forget. A chance to see the intricacies of these world famous gargoyles – the best steel sculptures that I’ve seen including those I’ve seen in photographs. Getting to this location is so far beyond difficult it wasn’t even funny. I had to actually make five separate flights to New York to finally get a special invitation from the owner of the Chrysler Building to take this shot. The interest in my photographs and my passion for New York gave light to capture this epic scene. The viewpoint from this ledge was off the charts and I only had one chance to get it right. The pressure was on.

I had a narrow window of twilight. I wanted to capture the special mood of the city. I knew that as soon as one of the spotlights lit the gargoyles, my shot would be over. Luckily, the light took a few seconds to warm up, soft light first. I had a few seconds to press the shutter.

I had to get this right. Soon total darkness covered the city and the spotlights hit the eagle and burst out into a hot light. Timing was everything. I’m stoked I walked away with the image that I envisioned of New York. Love it.
